Gabe's Neck Injury and Recovery
Gabe Meyer tells his story of acute disc herniation after being placed in a martial arts "neck crank" submission hold. He won the match, but suffered a significant nerve root injury causing triceps weakness.
Gabe sought early medical treatment and made a full recover of his pain and weakness after surgery.
His diagnosis was "cervical disc herniation with radiculopathy." He underwent surgery with Neurosurgeon Dr. Scott B. Phillips. Anterior Cervical Total Disc Replacement (artificial disc) was chosen of traditional the traditional Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF).
